Golf Pros Modern
Day Golf Professionals
Most
people think of a golf pro as someone who runs the golf course and gives lessons.
This perception is only partly correct. The modern day golf pro
is much more specialized than his or her counterpart of yesteryear. Previously,
golf pros did run the golf course and give lessons. Today, most courses employ
several golf pros, because the demands on golf pros are much greater. The director
of golf may or may not be a golf pro, but he or she is usually involved deeply
in the business side of the course, and their duties often preclude direct interaction
with the general public. These duties most often fall to the head
professional. This person directly oversees the assistant pros and golf shop staff.
They also are generally involved in meeting and greeting the public.
Assistant professionals are usually assigned various jobs, as they are learning
the business and working their way towards being a head professional someday.
Assistant golf pros do everything from registering the golfers in the pro shop
to cart barn duty. Most assistant golf pros work long hours for minimal pay, but
they are counting on a reward in the future. Perhaps one of the
best jobs a golf pro can have is that of golf teaching professional. They generally
are relieved of worrying directly about the business of the golf course, and instead
are simply teaching the game. As teaching professionals are generally independent
contractors, they can set their own hours and rates. A busy golf teaching professional
can easily make a six-figure income, given the right set of circumstances.
Whatever the case may be, golf pros indeed have some of the best jobs in the golf
industry. | |
